First, I would like to thank Senator Tarr for taking the time to meet with us. The meeting was very informative and we now have a better idea of what the State plans to do, and how it plans to implement electronic medical records throughout the State.
We will discuss many of the details further in our upcoming newsletter, but a few of the main points are...
- The state plans to have one universal EMR system that all Hospitals and practices will have.
- They will be providing grants, to first large hospitals and then work thier way down to the smaller offices, to help them implement thier EMR.
- The University of Massachusetts is forming the E-Health Institute to help advise and train the medical community.
We also discussed reforming some of the archiving laws in the State. Currently many of the States documents are still required to be in Micro Film format, when that technology is clearly outdated. If the State wants to move forward, it is our opinion that, many of these outdated regulations must be adjusted to make converting to electronic records more cost effective.
Please email me if you have any further questions about the new health bill and I will try to answer them as best I can.
